Those who know me, know I love the Web. But recently I've been thinking about why that is. Is it because that's where people these days spend their time - perhaps. Is it because rather than interrupting a wide spectrum of people, you get to interact only with pre-qualified and curious prospects who are coming to you to be convinced - maybe. But lately I'm thinking it's because of the democratic, honest and insightful nature of the Web. People aren't being broadcast to, they decide their own fate and interests. They vote through their actions and help create what serves their needs. They can connect with like-minded others they may never find on their own in the physical world.
The Web offers insight and honesty that companies and marketers can learn from, like a perpetual focus group. And while it's true that people's patience goes down and expectations go up, the Web gives us the opportunity to both influence and learn.
